They are the founders of the Tudor Dynasty.

See their world
Breathe their air
Experience Wales through their eyes

29 April - 6 May 2018

Let me paint a picture for you ...

It's sunset and you're standing on a beach with twelve of your new best friends, breathing the salt air, listening to the gulls, surrounded by the same mist that wrapped around Jasper and Henry Tudor as they came back to Wales to launch their invasion and claim the throne for Henry in 1485.

I'd like to invite you on a tour of Tudor Wales in May, 2018

We'll visit the birthplace of the Tudor dynasty. We'll dig deep into their history with talks by expert speakers along the way. We'll explore the castles where they lived, learn about the battles they fought, and we'll experience Tudor history with a new depth by seeing Wales through their eyes.

Heather Teysko of the Renaissance English History Podcast, and Nathen Amin of the Henry Tudor Society are teaming up to bring you a tour like no other. One steeped in Tudor history, unique destinations, with a small group capped at 14 people. A small group allows us to form special connections, and experience unique places along the way that a larger group wouldn't be able to see.

Here's where we'll go:

This is an 8 day tour starting in Windsor, moving through the gorgeous countryside through western England into Tudor Wales. We're going in late April and early May, one of the most wonderful times of year to see England.

We'll arrange for you to be picked up in Heathrow, and taken to our hotel in Windsor, and see the castle where Owen Tudor met Katherine de Valois, the Dowager Queen of England. History was made when they fell in love and married in secret. It was through this marriage that we get the Tudor dynasty.

From there we'll move on to Raglan Castle in Monmouthshire, the childhood home of Henry Tudor. We'll talk about his childhood, and the Herberts, with whom he lived.

Then we're on to Carmarthen, the oldest town in Wales and the gateway to West Wales, as well as having been the most populous town in Wales during the Tudor period. There are several Tudor sites to see here including the castle, where we'll talk about the death of Henry VII's father Edmund. We'll also visit the church where the tomb of Sir Rhys ap Thomas (who helped Henry win at Bosworth) is located.

Day Three sees us heading to Carew in Pembrokshire.  Carew Castle is known as the Hampton Court of Wales, and it played a significant role in the 16th century. We'll also see Pembroke Castle, the birthplace of Henry Tudor.

The next day we'll make one final stop in Pembrokeshire at St. David's Cathedral where we can see the tomb of Edmund Tudor. Then we'll head up to North Wales, tracing a similar path to the one Henry Tudor took on his march to Bosworth Field to meet Richard III in battle in 1485.

Day Five opens in Harlech, Gwynedd, where we'll see the castle that stayed loyal to its lord, Jasper Tudor, during the Wars of the Roses. The castle offers unbeatable views of the world-famous Snowdonia mountain range, and is a breath-taking location. We'll also see the Island of Anglesey, which is the home to the Welsh Tudors.

Day Six is a really important day in Tudor History. We'll be in Conwy, one of the largest and most historically significant locations in North Wales, most noted for Conwy Castle, one of Edward I’s famous fortresses to quell the Welsh shortly after he conquered the castle. You will learn about the castle and also how two of the Tudor brothers of Penmynydd managed to trick their way into the English-held castle in 1401 and capture it. You will learn about their part in the Welsh Wars of Independence under their cousin Owain Glyndwr, and how the collapse of the war meant young Owen Tudor had to emigrate to England to find his fortune.

Day Seven we head back to England to Ludlow Castle to learn the story of the Wars of the Roses, and how Arthur Tudor and his bride Katherine of Aragon lived here during their brief marriage. You will also learn about the death of Owen Tudor, killed near Ludlow at the Battle of Mortimer’s Cross, and spend some time wandering the medieval locations in the town, such as St Laurence’s Church and the Elizabethan Town House.

We'll spend our final night in Ludlow, where we'll have one final dinner to celebrate our new friendships and knowledge gained. The next day we will depart back either to Windsor, or to Heathrow, depending on the next stop on your journey.
