Today in 1485 Isabella of Castile was in labor with her daughter, Katherine of Aragon, who was born overnight. Throughout her pregnancy, Isabella was traveling around in Andalucia fighting the Moors. This was in the height of the Granada War, which ended in 1492 when Granada fell, and during 1485 much of Andalucia fell, including the town I live in, Ronda.
Katalina de Aragon was the last of Ferdinand and Isabella’s children, and she was betrothed to Prince Arthur of England when she was just three years old and the Treaty of Medina del Campo was negotiated. She spent most of her childhood at the Alhambra palace in Granda after it fell in 1492, and left for England about a decade later to marry Arthur and become Queen eventually.
